European project aims to boost the European Games Industry
06.02.2012 | MFG hosted the Kick-off Meeting of the European INTERREG IV Project Boo-Games
MFG hosted the Kick-off meeting of Boo-Games at the end of January. The project aims to boost the European Games Industry and to promote this sector to European politicians and authorities.
“We learned that this sector doesn´t get enough support or gets hardly contemplated in founding programs all over Europe and want to change that. Games are often seen by politicians as unimportant business, or are associating with violence and superficiality. We know that games are becoming popular, have potential for new creative startups and Small and Medium Enterprises", says Simona Pede, MFG project manager and one of the project creators. "We see games being often used for education purposes and see games related technologies being exploited for simulations in technical areas like the aeronautic”, concludes.
Boo-Games will focus in raising awareness on the challenges policy makers have as games relevant questions move up on the political agenda due to their economical and societal impact. The project will also collect European good practices in the field to provide policy makers with information and recommendations on how to support this sector. On the other hand, will be concerned in addressing relevant elements for the industry, such as Public funding, private investment incentives, talent incubation and cluster development.
The Consortium, composed by 14 partners, brings together different actors which Europe wide are involved in the support of the games industry. From Regions to regional Development Agencies and Universities, the partnership covers a wide portion of Europe and embraces Regions where the games industry is either in early development phase or already represents a promising sector.
Boo-Games is another initiative framed within the efforts made by MFG to sustain the local cultural, creative and IT industries through the creation of a network of partners called “Cluster Kreativwirtschaft Baden-Württemberg”. This network will be involved in regular initiatives for interdisciplinary dialogue, fostering development and growth.
