VoicE
EU legislation in the area of consumer protection is hardly comprehensible for many consumers and raises a multitude of questions. Via the e-participation platform VoicE citizens had the chance to discuss current topics linked to consumer protection with their representatives in Brussels.
The site offered background information on the topics energy, telecommunications, nutrition, toy safety and consumer market watch as well as EU legislation and the European institutions. Using state-of-the-art communication tools like blogs and online forums, the platform facilitated a constructive dialogue between citizens and their elected representatives at EU level.
Politicians had an opportunity to react immediately to citizens’ proposals, answer queries and position themselves in the area of consumer protection. VoicE allowed them to listen to their voters’ concerns and learn more about their expectations of European politics.

| Project aim | The project helped Baden-Württemberg to explore the potentials of online engagement. Two aspects were central in this context: the regional focus (one platform in Valencia and one in Baden-Württemberg) and the thematic focus (consumer protection). The project opened a testing field for e-engagement which helped Baden-Württemberg to position itself as expert in that matter. |
