Open Source Integration Initiative (OSII)
The Open Source Integration Initiative (OSII) brings together a range of open source software applications for use by businesses. The aim is to create a low-cost modular solution – a stack – that meets the needs of many different operating processes.

| Project aim | The companies taking part in the Open Source Integration Initiative share the same vision: the development of a software package for businesses that is as good as any licensed product. OSII and its partners provide a full range of business-focused IT solutions, from operating systems to middleware and databases right through to applications such as groupware, customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), document management systems (DMS) and business intelligence (BI). OSII’s activities focus on ensuring that all software components communicate smoothly with each other. An end-to-end software solution offers obvious benefits for organisations: they can save on licensing costs and have greater flexibility and independence from software vendors. Open source code allows IT systems to be built and customised individually to suit the needs of each company. |
| MFG's part | MFG Baden-Württemberg is responsible for managing the network. This implies the strategic development of the network, the analysis of technical capabilities and of market opportunities as well as all PR and marketing activities. OSII is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology as part of its Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM). The project is also backed by OSB Alliance, the largest open source network in the German-speaking world. |
